These sweet little heart earrings are straight forward to make and a great way to get to grips with brick stitch. They’d make a lovely little gift or a fun addition to your own jewellery collection.
They’re created with size 11 Miyuki Delica beads. You will also need a few size 13/15 seed beads (for the hanging bail, ear wires of your choice as well as beading thread and a beading needle (size 10 – 12 would be ideal).
If you’re familiar with brick stitch already you can jump ahead to the diagram below and use your preferred method to create your heart. Still getting to grips with Brick Stitch, or it’s been a while since you’ve done any, I have given some pointers below.
If you’re completely new to brick stitch we have a great little YouTube video which introduces you to the basics of Brick Stitch here. I have also previously created a simple hexagon project for beginners that introduces you to increasing and decreasing. You can follow the Hexagon pattern from steps 1 – 15 from this project here; leave yourself a tail of 20cm before you start so you can add the point in afterwards and then simply add the two top sections separately. This diagram will help, the grey beads show steps 1-15 of the hexagon. The purple shows the additional bits to turn your partial hexagon into a heart.
Once you have made your Hearts you need to be able to hang them. Here I have used size 13 seed beads to do this, adding a little hanger at the top. I went for clear beads for this pair so they don’t distract from the lovely hearts.
I have created a sheet of blank templates so you can design your own too. You can print off and PDF to colour in and experiment with stripes and patterns. I have also made a few colour suggestions here, you can get really creative and make them in any colour you like.
