How I made a quick bold statement flower cocktail ring

Our new vivid bead range from Preciosa has plenty of great shapes, but the one I got most excited about was the twisted drops. Straight away I knew they’d make a great petals to create a bold flower. So this is how I made a quick bold statement flower cocktail ring.

The materials you’ll need;

Approximately 16 – 30 3mm round glass beads ( I used 19 to make a small ring)
6 x twisted drop beads
1 x 6mm round glass bead
Elonga Elastic
0.25mm supplemax thread
flexible beading needle
scissors

Create the ring band

Using the Elonga elastic and a flexible beading needle, thread enough 3mm glass beads on to the elastic to comfortably fit around your finger. You don’t want this to be too loose or too tight. Wrap the beads around your finger to check size before knotting. Once you’re happy with the size tie a reef knot or double knot to secure the elastic. Thread each end of the elastic through one bead, in opposite directions, to hide the ends and then cut off the excess.

Create flower

Cut a 30cm length of 0.25mm supplemax thread, pick up your 6 twisted drop beads. Slide them to the centre of the thread and tie a reef knot (2 over hand knots; first is left over right, the second is right over left). Then thread one end of the thread through the next bead, and the other end of thread through 2 beads. This should leave you with the thread in between opposite beads.

Add the centre of the flower

Pick up the 6mm round glass bead, thread it on to one end of the thread and pass the other end though the same bead in opposite directions, then pull the threads, making sure the bead ends up sat in the centre of your flower.

Attach the flower to the ring band

Take the two ends of thread to the back of the flower by simply placing them in the gap between the petals. Turn your flower over and slide the ring back on to one end of the thread. Tie another reef knot, but first, make sure the knot of your ring band lines up under the threads you’re knotting. It’s a little fiddly, so go slowly and push it into place at the last stage.

Finishing off

Once your knot is secure and your ring band trapped underneath your flower. Take each end of the thread though 1 or 2 twisted drops and then cut of the excess and your flower cocktail ring is complete!
