Learn how you can make a pretty floral hairband

I have filmed a small tutorial showing you how you can learn to make a pretty floral hairband.  I wanted to use these lovely little white flowers to make a hair piece and attaching them to an Alice band seemed like the prefect direction to go.

When I started playing around with a flowers I had quite an idea in my mind that I was going to line up flowers along the band and secure a seed bead in the centre. However because the flowers are quite small it became obvious that this route would be very fiddly to do. I tried different diameters of wire but it didn’t help, so started on plan B.

Designing floral hairband

As I was playing around with the flower beads I realised because they are five petaled flowers they tessellate quite nicely and fit into a pleasing almost zig-zag shape. So I decided to utilise that shape to create a pretty pattern and as a way to solve a practical issue of how to easily attach them onto the band.

The video below is the result of my ‘plan B’ as you can see I have included seed beads too, but in a slightly different way. I hope you enjoy the process as much as I did.

Materials used in the band

Small silver plated head band
Approximately 1.5m 0.4mm silver plated wire
34 pearl white flower spacer beads (you can use more or less)
Approximately 1m of white beading thread and a size 12 beading needle
1 seed bead per flower attached. I used the pink mix of size 11 Preciosa seed beads

The finished band – ideas for customising

The finished band has a pretty and soft look, using the same pink beads in the centre of each flower. They would look completely different again with different colours, with a yellow bead in the centre they would look a lot like little daisies. It would look equally great with a mix of different bright colours. Perfect for fun kids parties. Or you could go for dramatic or classic effect using shiny black beads or silver beads, perfect for a prom or ball. There’s so many options and possibilities to customise this design. This band would be great for a flower girl or even a simple wedding hairstyle too. You could also use this design as a base to attach a larger focal piece.
