How we made Felt Anemone Flowers with The Crafty Kit Co’s kit

As you may know Ange, one of our newest Bead Shop recruits is a trained florist. So when we started stocking The Crafty Kit Co felt flowers it seemed only right to give Ange a kit to test! Here is how Ange made felt Anemone flowers with one of The Crafty Kit Co’s kits.

We were all very excited to try out these Crafty Kit Co designs. And I was delighted when Hana asked me to make up the Anemones as they are one of my favourite spring blooms! (Shh, don’t tell the other flowers that I have a favourite!) Here’s how I got on making the felt Anemone flowers kit;

Make Your Own Felt Anemones Kit

One of the things that we considered when we chose to stock these designs were the eco credentials of The Crafty Kit Co. They come packaged in recycled cardboard with no unnecessary plastic wrapping inside. So two big thumbs up there. Inside the box are all the materials you need for each project. You just need to add glue, so I fired up the trusty glue gun and got stuck in. I also used some sharp embroidery scissors and a measured cutting mat, but a ruler would work too.

Cutting out a craft kit felt flower

This kit contains four sturdy wire stems to create four larger anemone flowers. There was plenty of felt left afterwards, so you could make more by adding your own wires. Or a skewer would look great once finished with the stem tape too! Once you’ve learnt the principle of creating the anemones.

It was simple to construct each flower, guided by the straightforward instruction booklet. I also appreciated the pictures of each stage for an at-a-glance guide as I went along. Each flower consisted of two layers of five petals surrounding the pretty frilly centre. There is some scope to customise your flowers in the shaping of the petals and leaves.

Florist tip! – This stem wrap tape works best when warmed slightly. So pop the roll in your pocket whilst you cut out your felt shapes, and your body heat will bring it to the perfect temperature by the time you are ready to use it.

Although this kit is intended to create flowers with stems, for display in a vase or to give as a cheerful gift bouquet it isn’t limited to this. It would be easy to snip the heads off once completed to decorate a spring wreath or trim up a picture frame. You could also have a go at making them without a wire to create pretty hair clips or alice bands.

I found this kit really straightforward to make and one of the simpler designs. There are some slightly more advanced kits such as the daffodils and sunflower, however The Craft Kit Co helpfully have videos for these. I’ve got my eye on the Lavender next, or the Chinese lanterns are sweet! A few of each would make a fabulous centrepiece with extra leaves perhaps.

Anemones are traditionally a spring flower and are often associated with anticipation! They are said to specifically symbolise relaxation and serve as a reminder to enjoy the moment – what a perfect message to give with a gift of a craft kit.
